Commune closed its doors.
After developing the world’s first shared housing and service solution exclusively intended for single parents and their children, Commune had to close down due to a lack of funding.
In just 3 years of existence, 2 pioneering coliving residences for single-parent families were built, welcoming tens of parents and children who experienced family-making in a different way. First in Poissy, from December 2023 onwards, then in Roubaix starting from January 2025.
In just a few months and with very limited resources, Commune showed that it was possible to (re)house single-parent families quickly and with dignity. Commune helped reduce each household’s isolation, carbon footprint, screen time, and food waste. Commune has created joyful and playful living environments, improved the mental health of parents and their children, and fostered powerful friendships.
Not everything was perfect.
Commune broke new ground. Literally.
So this is the end of a chapter, but the rest of the story remains to be written… Together?

The Commune project
Commune was the world’s first coliving company exclusively dedicated to single-parent families. Commune’s goal? Make life easier for these parents and children that are too often overlooked, by creating a community where all single parents and their children can thrive. By providing a pragmatic and necessary turnkey housing solution, Commune simplified parenting and met the specific needs of children by developing turnkey residences organized around private spaces (individual units with two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchenette) and common areas (shared kitchen and dining room, multipurpose game room, laundry room, coworking space, garden).

The idea for Commune was born in 2021, in response to the damage caused by the loneliness pandemic and the challenges faced by single parents and their children in finding (new) housing.
Single-parent families represent 25% of families in France and most OECD countries, almost 1 in 3 in large cities, and are still overrepresented in situations of poor housing.
With the aim of providing housing for this population and building opportunities by rebuilding social ties, the need for Commune became obvious.

Témoignages
What immediately appealed to me was the fact that you could arrive at Commune and just put your luggage down. No need to worry about furnishings, electricity, water, Internet and other contracts: really simple. It was perfect.
I was most attracted to the shared spaces. Here, I can both relax at home and spend time with the other colivers. And as my son is an only child, I think it’s important for him to be able to play with other children.
I really won the lottery the day my application was accepted. Getting a place to live, having your own place to live with your children as a single parent, it’s incredibly precious.
